Key Responsibilities and Requirements

  • Provide spiritual, religious, and pastoral care to Jewish students and staff.
  • Create and deliver engaging programs, religious services, and cultural events.
  • Offer guidance, support, and a confidential listening ear for members of the Jewish community at SOAS.
  • Foster an environment of inclusivity and respect, working collaboratively with colleagues across the university.
  • Liaise with external Jewish organizations as appropriate.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of issues affecting Jewish students in higher education.

Requirements

  • Demonstrable experience as a Jewish Chaplain or in a similar pastoral role.
  • Strong understanding of Jewish traditions, values, and community needs.
  • Excellent communication, empathy, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Competence in managing confidential and sensitive situations.

Salary

£7,150 to £8,442 per annum (part-time, 7 hours per week, including London Allowance). The full-time equivalent salary is £35,749.57 – £42,207.57 per annum.
